1st Pickings - Rhubarb<\/strong><\/h3>

Having let the allotment rest for two years - one year between us taking it on and the previous guardian - and then one year clearing the overgrowth and finding the form of the site - we are finally digging in.<\/p>

We will be growing organically and by \u2018the sun, moon and the stars\u2019 - following the Astro Weather patterns<\/strong>, and using the feng shui of the site<\/strong>, to hopefully work with the energies that will best suit our growing desires and in alignment with the native eco-systems by being in-tune with nature, as best we can, and not working against it.<\/p>

Observing the position of an earthly dwelling or space in correlation with the our planet in space, and observing the shape and form of the land and the types of forms around the space - rivers, mountains, woods etc all have an influence on the micro-climate of the 5 Element Harmony, <\/strong>balance, flow and needs required to live best in that space.<\/p>

When growing plants, it is essential for us to know the needs of the plants and be able to place them as best we can in our plot. Over the last year, while clearing rubbish and weeding, I have been keeping an eye on what is growing well and where on the plot. What shade do we have. Where\u2019s it dampest. What\u2019s sheltered from wind. Where does the sun rise and set? What has evolved and stood the test of time on the plot.<\/p>

Learning by observation before testing, perhaps helps reduce time effort and resources, planting incorrectly.<\/p>

After the heat of last summer (2022) and the plot hose pipe bans, the rhubarb plants stayed very forlorn and there wasn\u2019t any pickings for autumn. But come this spring, it is even better than last year - not harmed by the frosts that killed a lot of peoples prize plants including my own.<\/p>

When growing, \u2018the sun moon and the stars\u2019 aspect relates to - where is east, south, west and north i.e. where is the sun-light coming from? What time of the year is light falling over what part of the soil. Is there shade in the heat or do we need to provide it? <\/p>

It, also, relates to the pull of the moon, on the moisture within:- the air; the soil; roots; stem and the leaves of the plants.<\/p>

The feng shui aspect relates to how is wind flowing through the plot. Are there tree stands (WOOD), natural wind adjusters, or walls (EARTH), buildings - man made wind adjusters.<\/p>

Feng shui, also, relates to the other elements: - <\/p>

Is there METAL in the ground (usually earth bonded minerals) What are the predominant ones? Are there overhead pylons, underground cables?<\/p>

Where is available WATER? Is it piped and chlorinated or is there rain water collection available? Is the soil free draining, or is it damp and boggy?<\/p>
